Eugene Bell Foundation (EBF) granted an exemption to ship necessary supplies to the DPRK to maintain and expand EBF’s ongoing diagnosis and treatment program there for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and extensively-drug resistant tuberculosis

On 23 August 2022, Counsel to the Eugene Bell Foundation (EBF) wrote to the Security Council 1718 Sanctions Committee requesting an exemption to engage in further humanitarian activities in the DPRK (it has been actively engaged there for many years), in particular to authorize the shipment of supplies necessary to maintain and expand EBF’s ongoing diagnosis and treatment program for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and extensively-drug resistant tuberculosis in the DPRK.

The request was granted by the Committee on 2 September 2022 who exceptionally extended the time frame for the transfer of the items and services outlined in the letter to 12 months from the usual 9 months normally allowed. A detailed list of the items and services to be supplied can be found in the annex of the Committee’s approval note verbale which is here.
